Momčilo Stevanović, retired scientific counsellor and full professor, was born on 1935 at Skoplje, Macedonia. He took his B.Sc. and Ph.D. degrees (field of radiation damage of sintered oxides) at Faculty of Chemical Engineering- Belgrade in 1959 and 1965, respectively. From 1960 to 2004 he worked in the Materials Department in Vinča Institute, starting as research fellow, since 1967 as scientific associate, since 1977 as senior scientific associate and since 1986 as scientific counsellor. Besides, he was engaged: as assistant professor (Faculty of Electronic Engineering–Niš; courses General Chemistry and Materials Science–1969-1973); as associate and full professor (Faculty of Chemical Engineering-Novi Sad; course Chemical Thermodynamics – 1975-1982) and as full professor (Faculty of Chemical Engineering-Belgrade, courses Heterogeneous Equilibrium and Testing of Composite Materials–1996-2000). He was leader of several research and predevelopment projects (1970-2004). In Vinča Institute he was head of Ceramic Section (1971-1973), head of Materials Department (1974-1975) and Deputy of General Director (1986-1990), member of Institute Scientific Committee and vice president of Institute Director Committee (1994-1998). He is a member of SCS and was a member of ICCM and ESCM. In the period of 1992-2000 he was a member of Scientific Committee of European CTS conferences. In 2005 he was elected a member of Scientific Society of Serbia and in 2007 a corresponding member of Academy of Engineering Sciences of Serbia.

In the first half of working period he was engaged in research related to ceramic oxide materials: radiation damage; high temperature mass transport processes and microstructure evolution; thermodynamics of vapour-liquid and vapour-solid equilibrium. In the second half of working period he was dedicated to the studies of continuous fibres/polymer matrix composites: introducing standard tests methods, mechanical behaviour of these composites: phenomena and effects in these composites like non linear elasticity; edge and size effects; effects of irradiation, absorbed water and annealing temperatures; delamination strain energy release rate; strength analysis; initiation and propagation of fracture and microfractographic analysis.

M. Stevanović with collaborators published 191 papers (2 monographs, 4 university textbooks, 47 papers published in international journals, 12 of them in leading IJ). His papers are cited 121 times. He participated in the supervision of 12 master and 8 PhD theses.
